Azrael quickly rises as the Chairman strides in. His body stiffens in attention, waiting for Wyatt to put down his stack of papers and take a seat. "You can sit," Wyatt grumbles and Az hesitantly reaches back to pull his butt into the chair behind him. "Thank you, sir." "You've done well in training your brothers. I was thinking it might be time to step up your game." "Sir?" Wyatt opens one of the folders in front of him and squints at a report. "There is a dragon terrorizing the citizens south of Roseglen. I figured with the three of you, it might prove an engaging challenge and the reward for capture would be quite handsome." Az feels a lump catch in the back of his throat. "A... a dragon, sir?" "You're in awe. I'm sure Cesario won't be able to contain himself." "Sir, with all due respect, our parents are dead. We three are the last of our line. What if we get killed?" "So we're supposed to let those other people be killed?" "I... of course not," Az looks into his lap, searching for a solution. "What if I went with a different team?" "Everyone else is either out on duty or holiday." "I..." Az feels his heart cry as the words fumble to his lips. "What if I went alone, then?" Wyatt eyes him, curiously. "Alone?" "I... I think if I'm careful, I can manage. And that way my brothers will be safe. If something happens to me, they'll still be here." Wyatt reclines in his chair. "Your performance has been good. And my grandson was fond of you. Evelyn is fond of you as well. Alright. If you think you can manage the dragon on your own, on your own it is." Az nods, his heart sinking. "You show great confidence to volunteer without asking how large it is. I like that. Shows gumption. Now, off you go." Wyatt dismisses him and Az glances at the file. Shit. What had he just gotten himself into?
